When to Clean Your Dishwasher

I personally make it a habit to clean my dishwasher a few times a year, especially after periods of heavy use such as the holidays. After hosting guests and engaging in extra cooking and baking, my dishwasher is usually in need of a thorough cleaning and freshening.

My preferred essential oils for cleaning are citrus-based. Lemon, orange, and grapefruit not only smell fantastic but are also highly effective at cutting through grease. However, my top choice for this recipe is the citrus fresh blend, which combines citrus oils with a hint of spearmint. It’s particularly useful if you’re not fond of the vinegar smell but still desire excellent results.

Instructions:

  1. Run hot water in your sink to ensure the dishwasher has access to hot water.
  2. You can either pour all the ingredients directly into the bottom of the dishwasher or add them to a shallow glass bowl and place it on the top rack. I’ve tried both methods and haven’t noticed a significant difference.
  3. Start an empty dishwasher cycle on the heavy or pots and pans setting, and let it run through to completion.
  4. Enjoy your fresh and clean dishwasher!
